OCT (Ocular Coherance Technology)
From 19th October 2009 we will have the latest Topcon OCT an ingenious diagnostic tool. This not only photographs the eye but also scans the retina and surrounding structures to produce a three dimensional cross section through the entire eye including the retina, vitreous and optic nerve head. This enables detailed analysis of any changes due to conditions such as macular degeneration and glaucoma to be done. All of this information can be captured in less than two minutes. We have invested in this latest technology as part of our ongoing committment to deliver the very best in care to our patients.
This will enable us to examine the eye in much more detail so detecting disease or anomalies at a much earlier stage. It will also give us a permanent record of your eye which the state of the art computer software will compare with any new data gathered at future examinations. This means that we can detect even subtle changes which are not as yet visible with other forms of examination so enabling us to identify a problem at a much earlier stage than we could previously.
The eyes also give us an insight into your general health and so by doing this more detailed exam we can detect problems ensuring these get prompt treatment.
This is an invaluable tool in analysing any early damage and monitoring the optic nerve head allowing earlier detection of conditions such as glaucoma where early detection is vital in prevent any loss of sight.
For all conditions early detection means earlier treatment so limiting any damage to your health and vision.
