Visual Feed Analyser
What affects our visual field?
We see with our visual cortex which is located at the back of our brains yet the retinas in the eyes which produce the neuro electric impulses are located at the front of our heads.
As a result any anomaly along this neurological pathway will cause changes to our visual fields.
The way we can detect and asses any problem is through measuring the visual fields.
The History
In days gone by this could be done by a very rudimentary test where someone would ask you to say when you saw their hand or an object as it was brought in from the edge of your vision.
This type of test is still sometimes used where an alternative is not available. However it is not the most accurate.
Today
With the advent of computers there have been a range of instruments produced which are able to measure and even analyse visual fields to determine if there are any problems.
At Keith Murphy Opticians we have just acquired a Humphrey Visual Field Analyser. This is seen as the gold standard in automated visual field analyser. as such it is the only Visual field analyser accepted by the DVLA and the one that is used within hospital eye departments throughout the country.
We can identify what is causing the problems and arrange where necessary, an appropriate referral to an ophthalmologist or neurologist.
